Mattress types
Pocket sprung mattresses use coils in fabric pockets. Memory foam responds to warmth and pressure. Hybrids combine springs with comfort layers such as foam or latex. Soft, medium and firm are shop labels, not a British Standard.
- How to choose a mattress
Type, support, feel, then size
- Pocket sprung
Coils in separate fabric pockets
- Memory foam
Slow moulding, often warmer
Bed bases
The base is not only furniture. A divan is a box, often with drawers. An ottoman lifts for storage. Slats need the right gap. An adjustable base bends only if the mattress maker allows it.
- How to choose a bed base
Divan, ottoman, slats or adjustable
- Divan vs ottoman
Drawers versus a lifting lid
- Slatted bases
Gap width can void a warranty
Couples & two sleepers
Two sleepers often want different firmness. Split tension is one mattress with two bands. Zip-and-link is two mattresses joined with a zip. Super King is 180 × 200 cm — near a Single width each.
- Split tension vs zip-and-link
One mattress or two joined

Two units, stairs and join
- UK King vs Super King
150 cm vs 180 cm width
Care, trials & UK law
People search rights after the sale. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers faulty goods. A shop does not have to take a change of mind. Fire labels must stay on. This is desk research, not legal advice.
