Will my bed fit up the stairs?
Check if a bed or mattress will fit through your doors, up the stairs and round a tight turn before it is delivered. Enter the boxed size in centimetres and measure your doorways, stairs and landing. The checker shows which spots fit, which are tight and which are unlikely to work.
How do you measure for bed delivery?
- Ask the seller for the boxed size of every part: length, width and depth.
- Measure the narrowest door on the route, with the door fully open. Measure the height too.
- Measure the stairs at their narrowest point, between the wall and the banister.
- At each corner or landing, measure the width before and after the turn.
- Check for lights, radiators, sloped ceilings and low beams on the route.
What if it will not fit?
- Choose a bed with a split base. Many Kings and Super Kings come in two halves.
- Choose a rolled foam or hybrid mattress. Do not fold a traditional spring mattress.
- Ask whether the frame comes flat-packed and is built in the room.
- Ask the seller before you order. Returns of large items can be costly.
Read bed footprint and delivery access, plan your room with the bed room planner, and see each bed type’s delivery notes.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if a mattress will fit up my stairs?
Measure the narrowest width of the stairs and any turn, plus the ceiling height above the stairs. A rigid spring mattress is carried on its edge, so its depth must pass the narrow width and its length must get round any turn.
Can you fold a mattress to get it upstairs?
Do not fold a traditional pocket sprung or open coil mattress. Folding can bend springs and may affect the warranty. Some foam and hybrid mattresses arrive rolled, which is easier to carry.
What if an ottoman bed will not fit?
Ask the seller for the boxed sizes before you order. Many divan bases come in two halves from Small Double or King size. A one-piece ottoman base may need a different route, or a different bed type.
Is a tight fit OK?
A tight result means there is less than 5 cm to spare. Delivery teams can often manage, but walls and banisters may get marked. Tell the seller about tight spots when you book delivery.
How accurate is this checker?
It is a guide, not a guarantee. It treats items as rigid boxes and turns as right angles. Real homes have banisters, radiators and sloped ceilings. Check with the seller if any result is tight or unlikely.
