In short

Microcoils, or mini pocket springs, are small springs placed in a comfort layer above the main spring unit. They add bounce and airflow to the surface. They also raise the total spring count printed on the label. They are not the main support springs, so read the core spring count and gauge separately.

Definition. Microcoils are tiny springs placed in a mattress comfort layer. They change the surface feel and raise the headline spring count.

A mattress with a 1,000-spring core and a microcoil layer can be sold as having several thousand springs. The support unit has not changed.

Ask how many springs are in the core unit for the size you are buying, and what gauge those springs use.
