Evergreen URL: /compare/single-vs-small-single
In short
A UK Single mattress is 90 × 190 cm (3ft). A UK Small Single is 75 × 190 cm (2ft 6). They share the same length, so the Single is just 15 cm wider. Small Singles often suit children, bunk beds and narrow rooms. Check the frame size before you buy a mattress.
This comparison is about UK plan sizes. The names sound close, but a Small Single mattress slides around on a Single frame, and a Single will not fit a Small Single frame.

Frequently asked questions
Can I put a Single mattress on a Small Single bed?
No. A Single mattress is 90 cm wide and a Small Single frame takes 75 cm. It will overhang by 15 cm and may not sit safely, especially on a bunk.
Is a Small Single big enough for an adult?
It can do for occasional use, but at 75 cm wide it is narrow. Most adults choose a Single at 90 cm or wider for sleeping every night.
What size is a 2ft 6 bed?
A 2ft 6 bed is a UK Small Single: 75 × 190 cm. Measure the frame in centimetres, because some kids beds use other sizes.
