In short

Gel foam is memory foam or polyfoam with gel mixed in. It can feel cooler at first touch. It does not refrigerate the bed. Cooling claims may also mean open-cell foam, special covers, air holes or thinner foam layers. Check the whole heat path — core airflow, foam, cover and duvet TOG — not just a gel badge.

Frequently asked questions

Does gel memory foam sleep cold?
Gel can feel cooler when you first lie down. It does not keep the bed cold all night. Thick foam can still hold heat. Your duvet TOG and room temperature matter too.
Are pocket springs cooler than gel foam?
Pocket spring cores let air move up through the bed. That often feels cooler than a solid foam stack. Thick gel foam on top of a hybrid can still feel warm at the surface.
