What does foam density mean in a mattress?

In short

Foam density is mass per cubic metre (kg/m³), not firmness. Higher density usually means more polymer in the same volume and often better resistance to permanent impressions. Soft high-density foam and firm low-density foam both exist — read density with ILD hardness and thickness.
