> Mattress depth is the finished vertical thickness, often from about 15 cm on slim foam models to 35 cm or more on pillow-top hybrids. Fitted sheets must match that depth: standard UK deep pockets often cover roughly 25–30 cm, while extra-deep sheets target about 35–40 cm. Depth also changes how much headboard shows on a bed frame.

## Depth versus firmness

Depth is a size measurement, not a firmness rating. A 30 cm mattress can be soft or firm depending on core materials. Sheet fit depends only on depth plus any [topper](/bedding/mattress-toppers) added above the mattress.

## How to match sheets

1. Measure from the bed base surface to the highest quilted or pillow-top face.
