A wooden or metal bedstead often sticks out. A [sleigh](/beds/sleigh-beds) adds length at the foot. A floor-standing headboard adds depth at the wall. An [ottoman](/beds/ottoman-mechanics) needs space for the lid. Do not park the bed so the lid hits a radiator or a sill. Drawers need pull space. Two drawers on the aisle side can steal your 50 cm walkway. ## What about stairs and doorways? Measure the tightest point, not the front door. Landings and corners fail first. A Super King mattress at 180 × 200 cm often will not turn. Do not fold a pocket sprung mattress to force it. That can damage the unit and void cover.
