> Mattress plan size is not always the same as the furniture footprint. Divan bases usually match the mattress closely. Wooden or metal bedsteads, sleigh scrolls and large headboards add external width or length. Delivery access depends on doorways, stair clearances and corners. Most traditional spring mattresses should not be folded.

## Access measurement checklist

### Do divan beds take more floor space than the mattress size?

Divan boxes usually match the mattress plan size closely (plus any separate headboard depth). Wooden or metal bedsteads often stick out beyond the mattress. Sleigh curves add external length.

### Can you fold a pocket sprung mattress to get it upstairs?

Generally no. Folding or sharp bending can damage springs and comfort layers and may void warranties. Measure doorways, stairs and corners instead, or use constructions the maker says can be rolled.

Beyond the mattress footprint, ottomans need clear space for the lid arc — at the foot for end-opening units or beside the bed for side-opening units — so the platform can lift fully.
