## How should you read a sleep trial?

- Check the minimum nights you must keep the mattress before you can return it.
- Check who collects it and whether there is a fee.
- Check whether the trial covers every product or only some.
- Keep the mattress clean and use a protector if the terms ask for one.
- A sleep trial is extra to your legal rights. Online orders usually come with 14 days to cancel from delivery.

## How we made this table
 We listed UK companies in our directory that sell mattresses. For each, we read the trial and warranty terms on the company’s own website and noted the page and the date. We did not test mattresses or contact sellers. Nobody paid to be included, and the table is in A–Z order.

Frequently asked questions

###  How long is a typical UK mattress sleep trial?
  In this study the most common trial is 100 nights and the median is 100 nights. Trials ranged from 14 to 365 nights across 25 sellers we could verify.

###  Is a sleep trial the same as a warranty?
  No. A sleep trial lets you return a mattress you do not like the feel of, within set conditions. A warranty covers faults such as broken springs or sagging beyond a set depth. UK consumer law also gives separate rights.

###  Do I have to keep the mattress for a while before returning it?
  Often, yes. Some sellers ask you to sleep on it for a minimum number of nights first, so your body can adjust. The table shows a minimum where the seller states one.

###  Is returning a mattress free?
  It depends on the seller. Some collect for free; others charge a collection fee or only offer the trial on certain products. Check the conditions column and the seller’s own page.

###  How often is this data checked?
