# Zoned Support

> Zoned support means different parts of a mattress feel different. Usually the hip area is firmer and the shoulder area is softer. Zones are made with different spring gauges, coil sizes or cut foam. Zoning is a build choice that aims to suit mixed body shapes. It is not a medical device claim.

**Definition.** Zoned support means a mattress has areas of different firmness, usually firmer under the hips and softer under the shoulders.

Also called: zoned mattress, zoned springs, 7-zone mattress.

The number of zones in a name, such as 3-zone or 7-zone, does not tell you how
different each zone feels.

Zoned mattresses work best when you lie the right way round. Check whether you
can rotate it head to foot.
