# Roll Together (Mattress Motion Transfer)

> Roll-together is the tendency for two sleepers to drift toward the centre of a mattress as the surface forms a shared depression. Open-coil beds with linked springs often show more roll-together than independently pocketed units. Memory foam and latex can reduce the sensation by isolating motion. Soft surfaces still allow some shared sink.

**Definition.** Roll-together is when partners drift toward the centre of a mattress. Linked springs or soft fillings form one shared depression in the middle.

Also called: rolling together, centre sink.

Open-coil Bonnell grids share load across linked wires. That encourages a single
depression. Pocketed coils and many foam or latex surfaces reduce that shared
motion. Very soft beds can still create centre sink. See
