# Platform Top (Divan)

> A platform top is the rigid, spring-free top of a divan base. It gives the mattress a firm, flat surface to sit on, so the bed feels firmer overall. Platform tops are common on storage divans because there is no spring unit inside. Check the mattress maker approves a solid base.

**Definition.** A platform top is a rigid, spring-free top on a divan base. It gives a firmer feel under the mattress.

Also called: platform top divan, solid top divan, firm top.

The feel of the bed then comes almost entirely from the mattress.

Check the mattress maker’s base advice before you pair a mattress with a
platform-top divan.
