# Ottoman Bed

> An ottoman bed stores items under a mattress platform that lifts up on hinges. Gas struts usually help you raise and hold it. The whole space under the mattress becomes one storage box. Choose the opening direction for your room, then check the mattress weight range the struts are made for.

**Definition.** An ottoman bed has storage under a mattress platform that lifts on hinges, usually helped by gas struts.

Also called: ottoman storage bed, lift-up bed, ottoman base.

Ottoman describes the storage, so the bed can be a divan, an upholstered frame
or a wooden frame.

Ask for the size with the lid fully open. Sloped ceilings and wardrobe doors can
block the lift.
