# Mattress Protector

> A mattress protector is a fitted cover that shields a mattress from spills, sweat and stains. It changes the feel very little. An encasement zips fully around the mattress for stronger dust-mite blocking. Waterproof protectors often use a thin membrane. Many sleep trials and warranties expect you to use one.

**Definition.** A mattress protector is a fitted cover that shields a mattress from spills and stains while changing its feel very little.

Also called: mattress encasement, waterproof mattress protector, mattress cover.

Breathable membranes let air pass through tiny holes. Thick plastic layers can
feel warmer.

Wash the protector as its label says, so it keeps its waterproof layer.
