# Divan Base

> A divan base is a fabric-covered box that supports a mattress. It sits on castors or feet. The top can be a rigid platform or have a spring unit beneath it. Storage is a separate choice: a divan can have drawers or an ottoman lift. Headboards usually bolt to the base with struts.

**Definition.** A divan base is an upholstered box that supports a mattress. It sits on castors or feet and often has drawers.

Also called: divan, divan bed base, box base.

A UK divan base is made to the mattress plan size, so a Double divan is about
135 × 190 cm.

Kings and Super Kings often come as two halves that bolt together. That helps on
narrow stairs.
