# Bed in a Box

> A bed-in-a-box mattress is compressed, rolled and shipped in a carton. It expands after you unbox it. Most are foam or hybrid builds made to survive vacuum packing. The box is a delivery method, not a type of comfort. Judge the size in centimetres, layers, density, base needs and warranty like any other mattress.

**Definition.** A bed-in-a-box mattress is compressed, rolled and delivered in a carton. It expands to full size after you unpack it.

Also called: rolled mattress, roll-packed mattress, boxed mattress, vacuum-packed mattress.

Rolled mattresses are easier to carry up narrow stairs. Allow the expansion time
the maker gives before you judge the feel.

Traditional spring mattresses should not be folded or rolled unless the maker
designed them for it.
